The Iberostar Group has reached a deal with Redexis to implement a fuel cell system that consumes green hydrogen in its Bahía de Palma property. The move is part of the group’s decarbonisation roadmap to carbon neutrality by 2030.
The Iberostar Bahía de Palma hotel will see a green hydrogen-based cogeneration fuel cell installed on its premises. With an estimated annual consumption of at least 10 tonnes of green hydrogen, the fuel cell alone will produce enough energy to supply over 70% of the hotel’s thermal consumption and part of its electricity needs.
Redexis is an end-to-end energy infrastructure company, which is participating in the European grant-funded Green Hysland project. As part of the project, it is building the first hydrogen pipeline in Spain that will transport 100% green hydrogen, as well as carrying out the first injection of green hydrogen into a natural gas distribution network in Spain.
Green hydrogen is a clean energy produced from water and renewable energies, which involves the decomposition of water molecules (H2O) into oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2).
