An Oxfordshire Greggs restaurant is looking to expand into an old Costa Coffee café in an Oxfordshire town.

JMS planning, acting on behalf of bakery chain Greggs, has submitted two applications to West Oxfordshire District Council.

The first is for alterations to shop units 4 and 5 at Welch Way Witney to create one single unit while the second deals with signage to the shop front.

Greggs are already installed at unit 4 while the last tenant in unit 5 was Costa Coffee.

The coffee shop closed its doors in 2023 with the chain instead directing people to its branches at the Witney Woolgate Shopping Centre, and Witney Eastnor Place drive-thru.

As well as merging the units a new air conditioning unit would be installed as well as a new grille and new shopfront doors.

The entrance to the currently unoccupied unit 5 would be removed.

The application requests that permission be granted for the new store to be open from 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 8.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays.

In addition it would employ 12 people.

The Greggs currently at Welch Way has a 4-star rating on Google based on over 200 reviews and a 5 star (very good) food hygiene score.

The planning applications can be found on the West Oxfordshire District Council planning page under 26/00244/FUL and 26/00245/ADV.

Both are running until Tuesday, March 10.
